AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE

For the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below issues the following Airworthiness Directive (AD) under subregulation 39.1 (1) of CASR 1998. The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.

AD/HS 125/173 Fuel Boost Pump Wire Bundles 8/2004

 

Applicability:  Model BAe.125 series 800A, 800A (C-29A) and 800B aeroplanes and Model Hawker 800 aeroplanes, as listed in Raytheon Service Bulletin SB 24-3588, Revision 1, dated September 2003.

 

Requirement: 1. Perform a one-time detailed inspection for discrepancies of the wire bundles extending from relays 'JT' and 'KT' on Panel 'JA', and the wire bundle entering pressure bung 'DD' in accordance with Part 3.A. of the Accomplishment Instructions of SB 24-3588, Revision 1.

 

Note 1: For the purposes of this Directive, a detailed inspection is defined as: “An intensive visual examination of a specific structural area, system, installation, or assembly to detect damage, failure, or irregularity. Available lighting is normally supplemented with a direct source of good lighting at intensity deemed appropriate by the inspector. Inspection aids such as mirror, magnifying lenses, etc., may be used. Surface cleaning and elaborate access procedures may be required.”

 

2. Correct any discrepancies, detected during the Requirement 1 inspection, in accordance with Part 3.A. of the Accomplishment Instructions of SB 24-3588, Revision 1.

 

Inspections and corrective action accomplished before the effective date of this Directive per Raytheon Service Bulletin SB 24-3588, dated February 2003, are considered acceptable for compliance with the corresponding actions specified in this Directive.

Compliance:  For Requirement 1 - Within 125 flight hours or 90 days after the effective date of this Directive, whichever occurs first.

 

For Requirement 2 - Before further flight after the Requirement 1 inspection. This Airworthiness Directive becomes effective on 5 August 2004.

Background: This Directive requires a one-time inspection of certain wire bundles for discrepancies and related corrective action. This action is necessary to find and fix chafing and damage to the wire bundles, which if left could result in electrical arcing and heat damage in a potential fuel zone together with possible fire or explosion in the fuel tank.
