Directional Gyros - Inspection NK
Applicability: All IFR aircraft fitted with directional gyros that do not have latitude correctors available to the flight crew.
Requirement: 1. For Directional Gyros with precalibrated latitude correctors, ensure appropriate latitude is selected.
2. For Directional Gyros without precalibrated latitude correctors, check for drift due to the earth rotation unless information is available that shows that the gyro is suitable for the latitude in which the aircraft is intended to operate. -
Note 1: Directional Gyros adjusted for zero earth rate at the equator are generally acceptable for operations in Australia.
Note 2: Where a Directional Gyro forms part of a system (such as a magnetic compass system), information which shows that the system characteristics in each mode of operation are suit-able for the latitude in which the aircraft is intended to operate, is sufficient to show compliance with paragraph 2.
Compliance: Before issue of Australian Certificate of Airworthiness, or at next major inspection after 1 January 1980 for those aircraft already certificated.
