Applicability: All aircraft.


Portable Fire Extinguishers - Removal of Methyl Bromide, Carbon Tetrachloride and Antifyre Pistole Types

Requirement: 1. Remove from service each portable hand fire extinguisher containing methyl bromide (MB) or carbon tetrachloride (CTC) and replace by an approved type extinguisher using a less toxic agent.

 

2. Remove from service each Antifyre Pistole fire extinguisher and replace with an approved type.

 

Note: Carbon dioxide (CO2), bromotrifluoromethane (BTM) and bromochlorodifluoromethane (BCF) are acceptable extinguishing agents. Chlorobromomethane (CB) may also be used in unpressurised aircraft whose maximum take-off weight does not exceed 5700 kg (12,566 lb.).

 

Compliance: For paragraph 1 - Forthwith.
