GAF N22 and N24 Series Aeroplanes

 

AD/GAF-N22/54 D.C. Power - Generator Cable Termination 10/89 T

Applicability: All Nomad N22 and N24 series aircraft. Requirement:  1. Inspection of Cable Terminations.

  1. Gain access to the generator cable connections at both ends of stud P/N-I/N-81- 424, passing through the firewall in the wing leading edge (refer IPC Chap. 71- 50-00 Fig. 1, Item 23).

 

Note: It will be necessary to raise the upper engine cowls and the wing leading edge servicing doors to gain access.

 

b.    Pull back the protective covers from the cable-to-stud connections, and inspect all components for signs of damage due to overheating resulting from high electrical resistance in the termination. Check also for security of attachment of the cable to the stud, at each side of the firewall.

 

c.    If evidence of overheating is apparent, all damaged components must be replaced.

 

2. Application of Warning Placard.

 

a. Manufacture and affix a temporary placard to the generator control panel on the overhead console, with the following text:

 

MAXIMUM SINGLE GENERATOR CURRENT NOT TO EXCEED 75 AMPS.

 

Note 1: Incorporation of Mod N724 (Part 3 of ASB ANMD-24-5 R1) constitutes terminating action for the requirements of this A.D.

 

Note 2: Nomad ASB ANMD-24-5 R1 refers.

 

Compliance: Requirement 1.

 

  1. Aircraft whose total electrical load exceeds 150 amps - Before next flight after 21 August 1989, and thereafter before each flight until mod N724 is incorporated.

 

b.    Aircraft whose total electrical load does not exceed 150 amps - Prior to exceeding 100 hours time in service from 21 August 1989.

 

Requirement 2.

 

  1. Aircraft whose total electrical load exceeds 150 amps - Before next flight after 21 August 1989.

Background:  ASTA have advised severe damage and over heating has occurred at the generator firewall terminal lug which may affect safety of flight.
