Applicability: All F27 Mk50 aircraft serial numbers 20103 to 20108; 20110 to 20169, 20171 and

20172.

 

Requirement: Action in accordance with Fokker Service Bulletin F50-24-A013 Revision 2 or later.

Note: RLD Airworthiness Directive BLA 89-159 Issue 2 also refers.

Compliance: Prior to 21 January 1990.

 

Background: Recently, an incident occurred on a Fokker 100, involving smoke on the flight deck during approach. The most probable cause is thought to be an improperly tightened terminal on a generator line contactor (GLC) in the electrical power centre (EPC). The contactor’s resistance generated enough heat to make the terminal red hot, which resulted in the partial melting of the EPC. As the installation on Fokker 50 aircraft is similar, and improperly tightened connections have also been found on these aircraft, this Airworthiness Directive calls for the inspection and adjustment of the torque values on the terminal blocks and contactors in the EPC and on the relay panel in the forward cargo compartment.
