Fokker F28 Series Aeroplanes

AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE

For the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below issues the following Airworthiness Directive (AD) under subregulation 39.1 (1) of CAR 1998. The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.

AD/F28/86 Fuselage Butt Joint at Stringers 27/48 2/2001

Applicability: Model F28 Mk. 1000 through 4000 series aircraft, all serial numbers. Requirement:  Inspect in accordance with Fokker Service Bulletin F28/53-148.

Note: RLD AD 2000-151 refers.

Compliance: Before accumulating 30,000 total flight cycles since new, or within 12 months after 22 February 2001, whichever occurs later.

This Airworthiness Directive becomes effective on 22 February 2001.

Background:  The RLD received a report of a crack in the fuselage skin between STA.9805 and STA.10305 on the right side of the aircraft in a bonded doubler at stringer 48.

Subsequent investigation revealed that the crack initiated at a scratch, possibly present from production, at the edge of the bonded lower skin. This Directive requires a one- time eddy current inspection of the affected fuselage skin areas.
