Fokker F28 Series Aeroplanes

AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE

For the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below issues the following Airworthiness Directive (AD) under subregulation 39.1 (1) of CAR 1998. The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.

AD/F28/83 Engine Support Filler Plates 2/2000

Applicability: F28 Models 1000 to 4000, all serial numbers.

Requirement: Inspect, and rectify where necessary, in accordance with Fokker SB F28/53-149.

Note: RLD BLA No. 1999-153 refers.

Compliance: Before 31 December 2000.

This Airworthiness Directive becomes effective on 24 February 2000.

Background: Engine support filler plates have been found at random on similar build aircraft. The filler plates do not contribute to the structural integrity of the upper or lower legs in the fittings in which they were found, and may easily be misinterpreted as being part of the fitting being inspected. As such the filler plates hamper proper inspection as called out in the SIP. This is a condition which may result in any cracking being undetected and is unsafe.

This Directive requires a one time inspection of the engine support fittings for the presence of the filler plates, the discarding of the plates if fitted, and an additional inspection for cracking.
