AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE

For the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below revokes Airworthiness Directive (AD) AD/F100/34 Amdt 1. and issues the following AD under subregulation 39.1 (1) of CAR 1998. The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.

AD/F100/34

Amdt 2

Nose Landing Gear Main Fitting 4/2000

Applicability: Model F.28 Mk. 0100 aircraft, all serial numbers, if Messier-Dowty Part Number (P/N) 201071001 or P/N 201071002 Nose Landing Gear Units are installed, which include Main Fitting Sub-Assemblies P/N 201071200, 201071228, 201071248, or

201071249.

Requirement: Inspect in accordance with RLD AD 1997-116/2.

Note: Messier-Dowty Service Bulletin (SB) F100-32-92 Revision 1 and Fokker SB F100-32-118 refer.

Compliance: As specified in the Requirement document for the initial and repetitive inspections, with a revised effective date of 31 December 1999.

The compliance time of the previous issue of this Directive remains unchanged by this amendment.

This Amendment becomes effective on 20 April 2000.

Background: The RLD received a report concerning a Mk. 0100 aircraft, where during landing, immediately after nose wheel touchdown, the nose landing gear broke off, just below the nose landing gear pintle. Inspections of other aircraft revealed cracks on the inner side of the right hand downlock plunger support web.

Amendment 1 responded to a revision of the related RLD AD which was prompted by reports of three more cases of cracks in the nose landing gear main fitting area of the downlock plunger support webs, found during maintenance. As a consequence, the RLD AD required an initial visual inspection of the affected parts and subsequent NDT inspection, and introduced a repetitive NDT inspection and, if necessary, rework or replacement of the nose landing gear main fitting.
