Emergency Equipment

AD/EMY/19 Life Jackets - Inspection 9/83

Applicability: Beaufort (Airsea) Equipment Life Jackets MK.8E and MK.8E(W) fitted with either a plastic or die-cast Knapp Monarch operating mechanism P/Nos. KN-A138 and KN- A135.

Document: 1. Beaufort SB No. 043; or

2. An inspection procedure approved by the Secretary. Compliance: Within 12 months after 30th September 1983.

Background:  Compatibility tests with both square-end and tapered-end cylinders have established that the thread in the cylinder aperture is too short and will not permit the end of the cylinder to mate with the face seal. This defect is potentially serious as it could result in the cylinder not being punctured by the firing pin when the mechanism is actuated.
