Amdt 1
Escape Hatch Marking 14/98
Applicability: Model EMB 120 series aircraft having serial numbers 120003 through 120310, and 120312 through 120319.
Requirement: Replace the placards and opening handles containing instructions for opening the type III escape hatches with either:
- New “betalight” placards in accordance with Brazil CTA AD 90-11-02R2; or
2. Phosphorescent placards in accordance with Embraer Service Bulletin 120-25- 0220.
Note: Brazil CTA AD 90-11-02R2 Amdt 39-840 refers.
Compliance: 1. Unless already accomplished, before 30 June 1999, and thereafter every 7 years.
2. Unless already accomplished, before 30 June 1999. This Amendment becomes effective on 31 December 1998.
Background: The phosphorescent paint used on the placards and handles of the escape hatches has been found in some cases to be below the required level of brightness. In the case of an emergency evacuation, this condition could affect passenger safety.
Amendment 1 is issued in response to a revision of the related CTA AD which requires replacement of the “betalight” placards after 7 years of operation, in compliance with MRB Report, Section 3, Chapter 25, Task 25-21.
The original issue of this Airworthiness Directive became effective on 3 February 1992.
