Amdt 4
Flight Control Trim System Bearings 2/92
Applicability: All EMB-110 series.
Requirement: 1. Disconnect and visually inspect the bearings at the following locations for jamming:
- At the tube terminals of the elevator, rudder and aileron trim tab control systems.
b. At the aileron trim tab bellcrank and actuator eyelets.
Note 1: EMBRAER SB No 110-27-036 R2 refers.
Note 2: Brazilian AD 82-06-01 R8 refers.
Note 3: Compliance with AD/EMB-110/36 terminates the inspection requirement on the elevator trim rods and reverts the inspection interval to that prescribed in the Maintenance Planning Guide.
Note 4: Modification of the aileron and rudder trim tab rod bearings in accordance with EMBRAER SB No 110-27-060 R2 terminates that inspection requirement.
2. Action in accordance with Embraer Service Bulletin No. 110-27-060 R2. Compliance: 1. At intervals not to exceed 250 hours time in service, until compliance with
Requirement 2.
2. Within 1500 hours time in service or 8 months after 3 February 1992; whichever occurs first. The compliance of the previous issue of this Directive was: at intervals not exceeding 250 hours time in service after 28 February 1982 until the relevant modifications are carried out. This amendment is effective from 3 February 1992.
Background: An inflight failure of the terminal of the control rod in an elevator trim tab has been attributed to jamming of the trim tab bearing assembly.
Amendment 4 is issued in response to a recently issued Country of Origin Directive which requires modification action in lieu of ongoing repetitive inspections.
