Main Landing Gear Axle 5/95

 

Applicability: All Embraer model EMB-110 series aircraft.

 

Requirement: 1. Inspect the main landing gear axle support for cracks using either the magnetic particle or eddy current method. Polish the inspection area after the initial inspection only. Inspect in accordance with Embraer Service Bulletin (SB) 110- 32-0068.

 

2. For aircraft fitted with Main Landing Gear axle supports with S/N below 815G (LH) and S/N below 823D (RH): Visually inspect, with the aid of a template, the contour of the axle to piston support junction for correct profile. Inspect in accordance with Embraer SB 110-32-0071 Revision 1.

 

Note: Brazilian AD 86-01-01R1 refers.

 

Compliance: 1. Initially inspect in accordance with Requirements 1 and 2 before 500 landings after 7 May 1987.

 

2. Re-inspect axles found to have an incorrect profile, in accordance with Requirement 1, at intervals not to exceed 1000 landings. Axles with the correct profile do not require re-inspection.

 

Rework of wheel axle supports with an incorrect profile in accordance with Embraer SB 110-32-0071 Revision 1 cancels the inspection requirement of this AD. Aircraft inspected in accordance with previous Amendments of this Airworthiness Directive do not require inspection by magnetic particle or eddy current methods until the next repeat inspection after 27 April 1995.

 

Background: Cracking of the main landing gear axle support assembly has been found in service. This Amendment more closely defines the applicable wheel axle supports, as listed in Embraer Service Bulletin 110-32-0071 Revision 1, deletes the dye penetrant inspection method and references the latest issue of the reference information.
