Bombardier (Boeing Canada/De Havilland) DHC-8 Series Aeroplanes
AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE
For the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below issues the following Airworthiness Directive (AD) under subregulation 39.1 (1) of CAR 1998. The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.
AD/DHC-8/75 Cabin Exhaust Foam Air Filters 12/2000
Applicability: DHC-8 Series 100, 200 and 300 aeroplanes, serial numbers 408, 413 and 434 to 507,
except 464, 490 and 506.
Requirement: Replace any foam air filters (part number 600048) or alternate foam air filters, installed in the cabin exhaust system, in accordance with Bombardier Repair Drawing RD8-21-23, Issue 2, dated 16 December 1999. (Available from Bombardier Aerospace).
Note: Transport Canada airworthiness directive CF-2000-25 refers.
Compliance: Unless previously accomplished, within 4 months after the effective date of this airworthiness directive.
This Airworthiness Directive becomes effective on 30 November 2000.
Background: Bombardier has found that foam filters were erroneously incorporated into some production aeroplanes. Foam filters do not in comply with applicable flammability standards.
