Teledyne Continental Motors Piston Engines
AD/CON/73 Unapproved Camshaft Repairs 3/95
Applicability: All Teledyne Continental Motors piston engine camshafts repaired by Wades Camshafts Pty Ltd, North Melbourne Victoria, prior to 31 October 1994.
Requirement: Inspect applicable camshafts for lobe profile, lobe dimensions and grinding stress induced thermal cracks in accordance with an appropriate CAR 35 approved camshaft repair procedure.
Compliance: Effective 2 March 1995.
Installed camshafts: At the next engine overhaul or bulk strip, whichever occurs first. Spare camshafts: Prior to installation in an engine.
Background: This Directive has been issued to address advice of camshafts being repaired contrary to the requirements of CAO 106, AD/ENG/4 Amdt. 3, Paragraph 2.4. A number of the applicable camshafts have been examined at the Authority's Materials Evaluation Facility in Canberra. The examination indicates the Wades Camshafts repair procedure does not degrade the airworthiness of the subject camshaft. Therefore, applicable camshafts may remain in service until the next access to the affected part.
