SCHEDULE OF AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVES
AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE
For the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below issues the following Airworthiness Directive (AD) under subregulation 39.1 (1) of CAR 1998. The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.
Bombardier (Canadair) CL-600 (Challenger) Series Aeroplanes
AD/CL-600/45 Engine Support Beam 11/2001
Applicability: Model CL-600-2B19 aircraft, serial numbers 7003 through 7999.
Requirement: Perform a detailed visual inspection in accordance with Part 2 of the Accomplishment Instructions of Bombardier Alert Service Bulletin A601R-53-059, dated 14 June 2001.
If cracks are found, repair before further flight. Contact Bombardier Aerospace for approved repair instructions.
Note: Transport Canada AD CF-2001-26 refers.
Compliance: For aircraft that have accumulated 7,500 or less total flight cycles at 1 November 2001, accomplish before exceeding 8,000 total flight cycles.
For aircraft that have accumulated more than 7,500 total flight cycles but less than 11,750 total flight cycles at 1 November 2001, accomplish within 500 flight cycles after 1 November 2001 or before 12,000 total flight cycles, whichever occurs first.
For aircraft that have accumulated more than 11,750 total flight cycles at 1 November 2001, accomplish within 250 flight cycles after 1 November 2001.
Thereafter, repeat the inspection at intervals not to exceed 740 flight cycles. This Airworthiness Directive becomes effective on 1 November 2001.
Background: Cracks have been found on the upper and lower web of the engine support beam at fuselage station 640 on several high time aircraft in service. Consequential failure of the engine support beam, which is a principal structural element, could possibly affect the structural integrity of the aircraft.
