SCHEDULE OF AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVES

 



Bombardier (Canadair) CL-600 (Challenger) Series Aeroplanes

 

AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE


For the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below issues the following Airworthiness Directive (AD) under subregulation 39.1 (1) of CAR 1998. The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.

 

AD/CL-600/39 Fuel Level Sensing Wiring Chafing 1/2001

Applicability: Model CL-600-2B19 “Regional Jet” aeroplanes, serial numbers 7003 through 7295 inclusive.

 

Requirement: 1. Visually inspect the fuel-level sensing wires in the centre fuel tank for damage and for clearance from adjacent structure in accordance with the Accomplishment Instructions of Bombardier Alert Service Bulletin (ASB) 601R-28-042 dated 14 August 2000. Clearance between the fuel probe wires and adjacent structure must not be less than 3.125mm (0.125 inch). Clearance between the loose wires and the adjacent structure must not be less than 12.5mm (0.5 inch).

 

2.    If any damage to fuel-level sensing wires is found, replace the damaged wires Part Number (P/N) 601R57137-1/01 with wires P/N 601R57137-1/S01 in accordance with the Accomplishment Instructions of ASB 601R-28-042.

 

3.    Install cushioned clamps between the fuel-level sensor wires and pipe P/N 601R62261-55 in accordance with the Accomplishment Instructions of ASB 601R- 28-042.

 

4.    Report the finding of the Requirement 1 inspection to Bombardier in accordance with the procedures detailed in Annex A of ASB 601R-28-042.

 

Note: Transport Canada AD CF-2000-31 refers.

 

Compliance: For Requirement 1 - At the next “A” check or within 500 hours time in service after the effective date of this Directive, whichever occurs first.

 

For Requirement 2 - Before further flight.

 

For Requirement 3 - At the next “A” check or within 500 hours time in service after the effective date of this Directive, whichever occurs first.

 

For requirement 4 - Within 14 days after the Requirement 1 inspection. This Airworthiness Directive becomes effective on 25 January 2001.

Background:  Overseas operators of “Regional Jet” aircraft have reported chafing of the fuel-level sensor wires found during accomplishment of ASB 601R-28-036. This chafing, if allowed to continue, could lead to an increased risk of a fuel tank fire or explosion.

 

This Directive requires inspection of the fuel-level sensor wires, installation of cushioned clamps and, if necessary, replacement of any damaged wires.
