SCHEDULE OF AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVES

 


AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE

For the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below issues the following Airworthiness Directive (AD) under subregulation 39.1 (1) of CASR 1998. The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.


 

Cessna 190 and 195 Series Aeroplanes

 

AD/CESSNA 190/8 Magnesium Inboard Aileron Hinge Brackets 1/2005

 

Applicability: All Model 190, 195, 195A, and 195B aircraft; equipped with at least one part number 0322709 or 0322709-1 inboard aileron hinge bracket.

 

Requirement: 1. Inspect each part number 0322709 or 0322709-1 inboard aileron hinge bracket or any other bracket made from magnesium for cracks or corrosion, in accordance with Cessna Single Engine Service Bulletin SEB04-1, dated 26 April 2004.

 

2. Replace any cracked or corroded inboard aileron hinge bracket after any inspection where any cracked or corroded bracket is found. Use the procedures included with the FAA-approved replacement and the FAA-approved maintenance manual. This could include Cessna parts, supplemental type certificate (STC) parts, or parts manufacturer approval (PMA) parts, etc.

Compliance: 1. Unless the initial inspection is already accomplished, within 100 hours time in service after 20 January 2005. Inspect thereafter at intervals not to exceed 100 hours time in service until each affected bracket is replaced with an FAA- approved bracket that is made from aluminium, as specified in the service information.

 

2. Before further flight.

 

This Airworthiness Directive becomes effective on 20 January 2005.

 

Background: The FAA received several reports of cracks and corrosion found on the magnesium inboard aileron hinge brackets. Magnesium is known to be susceptible to corrosion. Such damage could result in the brackets cracking across the bearing boss and could lead to the aileron separating from the aircraft, with consequent reduced or loss of control of the aircraft.
