Cessna 170, 172, F172, FR172 and 175 Series Aeroplanes

 

AD/CESSNA 170/46 Elevator Cable Clevis to Aft

Elevator Bellcrank Attachment

Applicability: All model 172N with S/Nos. 17271035 to 17274523.

 

All model R172K with S/Nos. R1722930 to R1723425. All model 172RG with S/Nos. 172RG0001 to 172RG0789. All model F172 with S/Nos. F17201750 to F17202134.

All model FR172 with S/Nos. FR1720631 to FR1720675.

 

Requirement: To ensure the integrity of the elevator control system perform the following:


10/81

 

  1. Remove the MS24665-134 split pins, AN310-3 nuts and AN23-12 clevis bolts that attach both elevator cable clevises to the aft elevator bellcrank.

 

2.    Clean the mating surfaces of the bellcrank and elevator cable clevises.

 

3.    Visually inspect to assure that there is a clearance between the elevator cable clevises and bellcrank.

 

4.    Install the AN23-12 clevis bolts with the head to the right side for the upper bolt and left side for the lower bolt and the AN310-3 nuts removed in para 1. Install new split pins. Ensure that the elevator cable clevises can swivel freely.

 

5.    Check elevator cable tension, 30 + 10 lbs.

 

6.    Conduct operational check of elevator control system.

 

Note: Cessna S.E. SIL SE80-78 Revision 1 refers, but does not cover complete requirement.

 

Compliance: Within 100 hours time in service after 31 October 1981 unless already accomplished.

 

Background:  There is a possibility that the elevator cable turnbuckles may jam in the rear fuselage bulkhead cable cut out during operation of the elevator control.
