Rolls Royce Germany Turbine Engines - BR700 Series

 

AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE


For the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below issues the following Airworthiness Directive (AD) under subregulation 39.1 (1) of CAR 1998. The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.

 

AD/BR700/1 High Pressure Turbine Discs 13/2000

Applicability: Rolls Royce BR700-715 series engines incorporating high pressure turbine (HPT) Stage 1 and/or Stage 2 disks listed by serial number in Rolls Royce Germany Service Bulletin BR700-72-900231, Revision 1.

 

Requirement: Replace affected Stage 1 and Stage 2 HPT discs in accordance with Rolls Royce Germany Service Bulletin BR700-72-900231, Revision 1 dated 31 November 2000.

 

Note: German LBA AD 2000-358/2 refers.

 

Compliance: No later than the maximum approved life specified in Appendix 1 of the Requirement document as applicable.

 

This Airworthiness Directive becomes effective on 28 December 2000.

 

Background:  A manufacturing process change has resulted in a condition that will result in a decreased cyclic life than the life specified in the BR715 Time limits Manual for certain Stage 1 and Stage 2 HPT discs.
