AD/BELL 222/3 Tail Boom - Inspection and Modification 6/85

Applicability: 1. All model 222U helicopters with Serial Numbers 47501 to 47532 and 47534 to 47536.
2. All model 222B helicopters with Serial Numbers 47131 to 47143. Requirement: 1. Model 222U: Bell Alert Service Bulletin No 222U-85-3.
2. Model 222B: Bell Alert Service Bulletin No. 222-85-28.
Compliance: Inspect within 10 hours time in service after 3 May 1985, and thereafter at intervals not exceeding 25 hours time in service.
Modify in accordance with Part III of applicable requirement document.
Note: Accomplishment of Parts II or III of the applicable requirement document constitutes termination action for the requirements of this AD.
Background: Two cases of skin cracks in the tailboom have been reported. In one case the skin cracks extended through the upper flange of one supporting longeron.
