SCHEDULE OF AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVES

 



Bell Helicopter Textron Canada (BHTC) 206 and Agusta Bell 206 Series Helicopters

 

AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE

For the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below revokes Airworthiness Directive (AD) AD/Bell 206/148 and issues the following AD under subregulation 39.1 (1) of CAR 1998. The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.

 

 

 

 

 

Applicability: Bell Helicopter Textron Canada (BHTC) Model 206A, 206B and 206L and Agusta- Bell AB206A and AB206B series helicopters, equipped with Eaton Tedeco Products B3188B and B4093 chip detector assemblies.

 

Requirement: 1. Unless already accomplished, verify and repair Tedeco chip detectors as follows:

 

  1. For Bell 206A and 206B helicopters - Perform a continuity test and temporary repair in accordance with BHTC Alert Service Bulletin (ASB) 206- 01-96 Revision A.

 

b.    For Bell 206L helicopters - Perform a continuity test and temporary repair in accordance with BHTC ASB 206L-01-119, Revision A.

 

c.    For Agusta-Bell AB206A and AB206B helicopters - Perform a continuity test and temporary repair in accordance with Agusta Mandatory Bollettino Tecnico 206-235.

 

2.        Spare chip detector assemblies may not be installed on any helicopter unless they have been checked in accordance with the appropriate ASB or the Bollettino Tecnico.

 

3.        If the chip detector assemblies are repaired in accordance with either Requirement 1.a., 1.b. or 1.c. replace them with new chip detectors.

 

Note: Transport Canada AD CF-2001-33 and Enac (Italy) AD 2001-401 refer.

 

Compliance: For Requirement 1 - Remains unchanged as “Within 60 days from the effective date of the original issue of this Directive”.

 

For Requirement 2 - As of the effective date of this Directive

 

For Requirement 3 - Remains unchanged as “Within 300 hours time in service after the repairs were effected, but no later than 31 March 2002”.

 

This Amendment becomes effective on 14 November 2001.

Background:  Transport Canada has advised that BHTC has become aware that Tedeco B3188B and B4093 chip detectors installed on Model 206A, 206B and 206L Series helicopters could have poor or no continuity between the insert and the chip detector housing.

This could result in no chip indication when the chip detector has been bridged by metal particles.

 

The original issue of this Directive required a continuity test and temporary repair of the affected chip detectors and, if necessary, their replacement.

 

This amendment introduces the same requirements for AB206A and AB206B helicopters manufactured by Agusta.

 

The original issue of this Airworthiness Directive became effective on 17 October 2001.
