Beechcraft 1900 Series Aeroplanes

 

AD/BEECH 1900/28 Cabin Oxygen Mask Lanyards 8/99

DM

Applicability: Model 1900D aeroplanes with Serial Numbers UE-1 through UE-338 inclusive. Requirement:               1. Replace the passenger oxygen container and mask assembly Part Number (P/N)

129-384005-3 with an improved design, P/N 129-384005-5, by installing Puritan

Bennett retrofit Kit No 280041-00 in accordance with Raytheon Aircraft Mandatory Service Bulletin SB 35-3233 issued December 1998.

 

2. Passenger oxygen container and mask assemblies P/N 129-384005-3 may not be installed in any aeroplane.

 

Note: FAA AD 99-12-07 Amdt 39-11191 refers.

 

Compliance: 1. Within the next 200 hours time in service from the effective date of this Directive.

This Airworthiness Directive becomes effective on 7 July 1999.

 

Background: The United States Federal Aviation Administration has advised of an incident in a Beech 1900D aeroplane where a passenger had put on an oxygen mask and the lanyard pin did not automatically pull and initiate oxygen flow during a loss of pressurisation.

 

This Directive requires the installation of shorter length cabin oxygen mask lanyards which will ensure the oxygen flow mechanism is automatically activated as the mask is grasped and pulled to the face.
