SCHEDULE OF AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVES
Hot Air Balloons
AD/BAL/13 Portable Fire Extinguisher 13/94
Applicability: All Hot Air Balloons.
Requirement: 1. If not already accomplished install a dry powder type or a BCF vapourizing-liquid type portable fire extinguisher of at least 1 kg capacity, complying with Australian Standard AS 1841 or equivalent.
2. Maintain portable fire extinguishers in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommended schedule or Australian Standard AS 1851.1.
Note: A dry powder type extinguisher is the preferred type.
Compliance: 1. Before issue of a certificate of airworthiness or before 10 May 1995.
2. In accordance with the manufacturer’s schedule or that given in AS1851.1.
Background: A fire extinguisher is considered an essential safety item in a hot air balloon in the event of a gas leak with the burner alight.
