SCHEDULE OF AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVES

 


Hot Air Balloons

 

AD/BAL/1 Brass Nipple Failure 5/86 DM

Applicability: The Balloon Works hot air balloons models, Firefly 6, 6B and 7 fitted with burner S/No 510 to 562.

 

Requirement: FAA AD 75-17-36.

 

  1. Install safety wire extending from each of the three corners of the bottom plate to the lower portion of the upper Rego valve body. Assure wires are uniformly tightened.

 

2.    (a) Disconnect main burner tubes from manifold.

 

(b)     Drill out nine rivets holding pan to the bottom plate.

 

(c)     Unhook three burner support springs.

 

(d)     Remove upper burner assembly from lower burner assembly.

 

(e)     Unscrew nuts to remove pilot light tubes.

 

(f)      Clamp square section of Rego valve in vice.

 

(g)     Unscrew and remove burner manifold.

 

(h)     Inspect nipple. If nipple is steel, reassemble burner, if nipple is brass replace nipple with steel nipple, Balloon Works P/No A4032B.

 

(i)       Reassemble burner.

 

Note: Use teflon tape or pipe dope type sealant on nipple threads. Safety wire (Para 1) is not required after steel nipple is installed.

 

Compliance: 1 Unless Para 2 already accomplished, before further flight after 30 April 1986.

 

2. Within 5 hrs time in service after 30 April 1986.
