AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE

For the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below revokes Airworthiness Directive (AD) AD/BAe 146/71 Amdt 1 and issues the following AD under subregulation 39.1 (1) of CAR 1998. The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.

NLG Retraction Jack Attachment Boss 5/2002

 

 

Applicability:   1.  All BAe 146 series aircraft.

 

2. All Avro 146-RJ70 aircraft up to and including E1267 All Avro 146-RJ85 aircraft up to and including E2333 All Avro 146-RJ100 aircraft up to and including E3332

Requirement:  Inspect in accordance with British Aerospace Mandatory Service Bulletin 53-152 Revision 2.

 

Compliance:   For aircraft that have accumulated 8,000 flights:

 

Within 200 flights or 28 days after 31 December 1998, whichever occurs first.

 

For aircraft that have accumulated less than 8,000 flights:

 

Within 200 flights or 28 days after accumulating 8,000 flights, whichever occurs first.

 

Repeat thereafter as specified in the Requirement document.

 

The compliance times of the previous issue of this Directive remain unchanged by this issue.

 

This Airworthiness Directive becomes effective on 16 May 2002.

 

Background:  Evidence of cracking has been found on several in-service aircraft in the retraction jack attachment boss on the left hand nose landing gear (NLG) sidewall, which in some circumstances has led to replacement of the sidewall.

 

Amendment 1 added new inspection procedures.

 

Amendment 2 is issued in response to a revision of the Requirement document, which introduces additional closing action to cover a complete sidewall replacement; plus further drawing information

Amendment 1 of this Airworthiness became effective on 4 October 2001

 

The original issue of this Airworthiness Directive became effective on 31 December 1998.
