Ram Air Turbine Actuator Motor 11/98

 

Applicability: All Boeing 767 aircraft.

 

Requirement: 1. Test the Ram Air Turbine (RAT) in accordance with the requirements of Boeing Alert Service Bulletin 767-29A0080 Rev 1 dated 21 November 1996.

 

2. Replace the rotary actuator motor of the RAT.

 

Note: US FAA AD 96-20-05 refers.

 

Compliance: 1. Unless already accomplished, the initial operational test to be at 3000 flight hours or within 6 months of the last deployment of the RAT whichever is the later. If the RAT deploys correctly, repeat the operational test thereafter every 3000 flight hours or six months, whichever is the earlier.

 

2. If the RAT does not fully deploy during the operational test at Requirement 1. This amendment becomes effective on 8 October 1998.

Background: Several instances of corroded RAT actuators have been found and there has been a case of failure of the RAT to deploy due to a corroded actuator. This Directive mandates a US FAA AD which requires a regular operational test of the RAT for correct deployment. This amendment revises the follow up test compliance requirements.
