SCHEDULE OF AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVES
AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE
For the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below issues the following Airworthiness Directive (AD) under subregulation 39.1 (1) of CAR 1998. The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.
Boeing 767 Series Aeroplanes
AD/B767/163 Door Emergency Escape System
Deployment Bar
3/2002
Applicability: Model 767 series aircraft, with line numbers 1 through 854.
Requirement: Action in accordance with the technical requirements of FAA AD 2001-26-19 Amdt 39-12585.
Note: Boeing 767 Component Maintenance Manual, Revision 2, dated 1 November 2000, refers.
Compliance: Within 60 days after 21 March 2002.
This Airworthiness Directive becomes effective on 21 March 2002.
Background: The FAA received reports that entry and service doors did not open fully during deployment of emergency escape slides on several Model 767 aircraft. Investigation revealed that this condition is due to failure of the separation link assembly to release the deployment cable from the deployment bar of the emergency escape system on the entry or service door. Failure of a door to fully open during an emergency evacuation could impede passenger/crew egress from the aircraft.
David Alan Villiers
Delegate of the Civil Aviation Safety Authority 7 February 2002
The above AD is notified in the Commonwealth of Australia Gazette on 27 February 2002.
