Boeing 767 Series Aeroplanes
AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE
For the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below issues the following Airworthiness Directive (AD) under subregulation 39.1 (1) of CAR 1998. The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and © at the time mentioned in the compliance section.
AD/B767/118 Engine Thrust Control Cables 6/2000
Applicability: Model 767 series aircraft powered with either P&W JT9D-7R4 series engines or GE CF6-80A series engines.
Requirement: 1. Inspect the engine thrust control cables in accordance with the technical requirements in Appendix 1 of FAA AD 99-21-18 Amdt 39-11363. Repair any faults found in accordance with the procedures specified in the Boeing 767 maintenance manual before further flight.
2. For those aircraft identified in Boeing Service Bulletin 767-76-0010 Revision 1 dated 20 February 1992. Replace the two non-metallic pulleys of the thrust control cables with aluminium pulleys and re rig the engine thrust control cables in accordance with Boeing SB 767-76-0010 Revision 1.
Note 1: Aircraft previously fitted with aluminium pulleys in accordance with the original issue of SB 767-76-0010 can be certified as complying with Requirement 2 of this Directive.
Note 2: FAA AD 99-21-18 Amendment 39-11363 refers.
Compliance: 1. Within 18 months time in service or 4,500 flight hours, whichever occurs first, after the effective date of this Airworthiness Directive. Thereafter, re-inspect at intervals not exceeding 18 months time in service or 4,500 flight hours, whichever occurs first.
2. Unless previously carried out, within 18 months time in service or 4,500 flight hours, whichever occurs first, after the effective date of this Airworthiness Directive.

Background: Following advice of engine thrust cable failures this Directive is raised to mandate a repetitive inspection of the engine thrust control cables to ensure cable failure during operation does not occur, and to replace non metallic pulleys with aluminium pulleys.
