AD/B747/74 Wing Landing Gear Support Beam Outboard End Fitting
Applicability: Models Boeing 747 as listed in the Requirement document.

Requirement: Visually inspect around the fitting lug bushings at the landing gear beam outboard end fittings for corrosion, and carry out ultrasonic inspection of landing gear beam outboard end fittings for cracks, in accordance with Boeing SB 747-57-2244 Revision 2.

Note 2: The Requirement document details rework of wing landing gear beam outboard fittings which if accomplished, constitutes terminating action for the requirements of this Directive.
Compliance: 1. Prior to exceeding 30,000 hours time in service or 8 years in service, whichever occurs first, or prior to 31 November 1990, whichever occurs later, and thereafter at intervals not exceeding 18 calendar months until rework is carried out. Cracked fittings are to be reworked or replaced before further flight.
2. If corrosion only is found - carry out ultrasonic inspection for cracks at intervals not exceeding 6 calendar months and carry out rework prior to exceeding 1 year.
Background: Country of origin AD. Cracking of the end fitting initiated by corrosion could, if not detected, lead to separation of outboard end of beam with possible damage to control cables and hydraulic lines in the area.
