Applicability: Model 747-400 series aeroplanes listed in Boeing Alert Service Bulletin (ASB) 747- 25A3137 dated 13 March 1997.

 

Requirement: 1. Perform a one time inspection of the separation between the galley power feeder and the static ground wiring, and the adjacent passenger oxygen system tubing in the forward ceiling area above the door 4 galley. The inspection is to be accomplished in accordance with either, Boeing ASB 747-25A3137, ASB 747- 25A3137 Revision 1 dated 21 August 1997 or ASB 747-25A3137 Revision 2

dated 16 October 1997.

 

2. If, as a result of the Requirement 1 inspection, the separation is found to be outside the limits specified in the relevant Boeing ASB, reroute the wiring and install clamps and sleeves in accordance with the ASB.

Compliance: 1. Prior to 31 March 1999.

 

2. Before further flight, after the Requirement 1 inspection. This airworthiness directive becomes effective on 21 May 1998.

Background: The FAA has received reports of inadequate clearance between the galley power feeder wiring and passenger oxygen system tubing. The inadequate clearance could result in a fire in the ceiling area above the door 4 galley due to chafing on the oxygen system tubing.
