Section 41 Bonded Skin Panels 3/97
Applicability: Model 747 series aircraft; line numbers 1 through 200 on which the skin panel replacement specified in Boeing Service Bulletin 747-53A2321 has been accomplished; line numbers 201 through 430 that have been modified by Boeing to a Stretched Upper Deck (SUD) configuration; and line numbers 431 through 1075.
Requirement: Action IAW the technical requirements of FAA AD 96-23-02 Amdt 39-9807.
Note: Boeing Service Bulletins 747-53A2409, 747-53A2321, and 747-53-2272 refer.
Compliance: As specified in the Requirement Document with an effective date of 27 February 1997.
This amendment becomes effective on 27 February 1997.
Background: The FAA received a report of skin cracking due to disbonding of the internal doubler of the cracked skin panels. The actions required by this Directive are intended to prevent rapid decompression of the aircraft due to disbonding and subsequent cracking of the skin panels.
Amendment 1 corrects an error with the effective date of the AD. The new effective date is now 27 February 1997.
