SCHEDULE OF AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVES

 


AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE


For the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below revokes Airworthiness Directive (AD) AD/ARRIEL/6 and issues the following AD under subregulation 39.1 (1) of CAR 1998. The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.

Applicability:  All Arriel 1 series engines operated in an erosive environment as detailed in Turbomeca Alert Service Bulletin No. A292 72 0230 Update No.1 or subsequent revisions.

 

Note 1: Engines not operated in an erosive environment continue to be subject to inspection of the axial compressor for erosion at intervals as detailed in Chapter 05- 10-02 of the Maintenance Manual.

 

Requirement: Carry an inspection of the axial compressor 02 module for evidence of erosion and as applicable, clean the gas generator 03 module rotating assembly in accordance with the procedure detailed in Turbomeca Alert Service Bulletin No. A292 72 0230 Update No.1 or subsequent revisions.

 

Note 2: DGAC AD 1990-064(A) R1 refers.

 

Compliance: Initial and repetitive inspections; as detailed in the requirement document, with the effective date amended to 1 November 2001.

 

This Airworthiness Directive becomes effective on 1 November 2001.

 

Background: This Directive has been issued to address the operation of the Arriel engine in a dusty environment. In addition to erosion of the axial compressor, dust ingestion may result in an accumulation of mineral deposits inside the gas generator shaft. The deposits may cause a rotor out of balance and subsequent failure of the 03 module rear bearing. This amendment varies the requirement document and compliance times.

 

The original issue of this Directive became effective on 4 October 1990.
