Allison Turbine Engines - 250 Series

 

AD/AL 250/76 Falcon Helicopters 10/95 DM

Applicability: All Allison Model 250 engines and modules maintained and/or released by Falcon Helicopters Incorporated, Lee’s Summit, Missouri USA, Federal Aviation Administration Repair Station SY2R178L.

 

Requirement: 1. Remove from service any engine or module maintained and/or released by Falcon Helicopters Incorporated, Lee’s Summit, Missouri USA, Federal Aviation Administration Repair Station SY2R178L.

 

2. Engines and/or modules removed from service in accordance with Requirement 1 of this Directive shall only be returned to service following the disassembly of the engine and/or modules as applicable and inspection of all engine parts maintained and/or released by Falcon Helicopters Incorporated for compliance with Allison Engine Company published data.

 

Compliance: Effective 11 August 1995; within 10 hours time in service.

 

Background: This Directive has been issued to require certain Allison Model 250 engines and/or modules to be removed from service. The requirement follows the investigation of a Major Defect Report (MDR) concerning the failure of a turbine assembly 1.5 hours’ time service after overhaul by Falcon Helicopters Inc. A further 15 defect reports have been received since April 1995, all addressing defects in engines released by Falcon Helicopters Inc. In consideration of those reports, the airworthiness of Allison Model 250 engines and/or modules maintained and/or released by Falcon Helicopters Inc. is of concern.
