Brackett Air Filter Gasket 8/99
Applicability: Aircraft fitted with one of the following Brackett Aircraft Company air filter assemblies fitted as original equipment or in accordance with Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) SA71GL or STC SA693CE:

Requirement: To prevent particles from a defective gasket entering the carburettor which may result in partial or complete loss of engine power:
1. a. Visually inspect the air filter frame internally and externally for evidence of gasket looseness, movement or deterioration in accordance with Brackett Air Filter Document 1-194, and
- b. Replace any air filter assembly found to have a defective gasket with an air filter assembly as detailed in Requirement 2 of this directive.
2. Replace the air filter assembly, as applicable, with one of the following air filter assemblies which incorporate a retainer lip:

Compliance with Requirement 2 constitutes terminating action for the repetitive inspection requirement of this directive.

Note 1: A copy of Brackett Air Filter Document 1-194 may be obtained from the local Airworthiness District Office.
Note 2: FAA Airworthiness Directive 96-09-06 refers.
Compliance: 1. a. Unless previously accomplished, within 100 hours’ time in service, and thereafter at intervals not to exceed 130 hours’ time in service effective 12 September 1996.
- b. Before further flight.
2. Within 500 hours’ time in service effective 12 September 1996. This Amendment becomes effective on 12 August 1999.
Background: This directive was issued in May 1995 to require an inspection of certain Brackett air inlet filters for evidence of a defective gasket. The requirement addressed a report of an accident resulting from failure of an air inlet filter gasket. This amendment introduces a minor editorial change to clarify the terminating action.
Amendment 1 to this Airworthiness Directive became effective on 12 September 1996.
The original issue of this Airworthiness Directive became effective on 25 May 1995.
