AD/AC-SNOW/22 Horizontal Stabiliser Front and Rear

Spar and Attach Fittings

Applicability: All Models of the S2R with Ayres metal tail using the P/N 40087 Horizontal Stabiliser assembly as listed in Ayres Service Bulletin SB-AG-37.

Requirement: 1. Perform a close detailed visual inspection of the front and rear stabiliser-to- fuselage attach fittings. Inspect in accordance with Ayres SB-AG-37 “Inspection Instructions”.

 

2. Modify the horizontal stabiliser and attachment structure in accordance with Ayres SB-AG-37 “Accomplishment Instructions”.

 

Note: A Polysulphide sealant such as PR1422, PR1440 or PR1436 shall be used in lieu of RTV silicone sealant where the latter is specified.

 

Compliance: 1. Initially inspect in accordance with Requirement 1 within 10 hours’ time in service after 27 April 1995. Re-inspect at intervals not to exceed 25 hours time in service.

 

2. Modify and rework in accordance with Requirement 2 before 27 April 1996. Modification in accordance with Requirement 2 cancels the inspection Requirement of this AD.

 

Background: Operators have reported finding cracks in the horizontal stabiliser front spar assembly. If allowed to propagate the cracks could lead to failure of the horizontal stabiliser.
