SCHEDULE OF AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVES
AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE
For the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below issues the following Airworthiness Directive (AD) under subregulation 39.1 (1) of CAR 1998. The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.
Airbus Industrie A319, A320 and A321 Series Aeroplanes
AD/A320/128 Pitot Probes 11/2001
Applicability: All Model A319, A320 and A321 series aeroplanes without Airbus Industrie Modification 25998 embodied, either during production or whilst in service, in accordance with Airbus Industrie Service Bulletin (SB) A320-34-1127.
Aircraft equipped with BFGoodrich (previously New Rosemount) pitot probes Part Number (P/N) 0851HL in accordance with SB A320-34-1170 (Airbus Industrie Modification 25578) are not affected by this Directive.
Requirement: Replace Thales (previously Sextant) pitot probes P/N 50620-10 with new Thales pitot probes P/N C16195AA in accordance with SB A320-34-1127.

Compliance: Before 18 August 2003.
This Airworthiness Directive becomes effective on 1 November 2001.
Background: The Direction Générale de L’Aviation Civile of France has advised that several operators have reported loss or fluctuation of airspeed indication when flying through extreme meteorological conditions. Investigation determined that the presence of ice crystals and/or water in the current Thales pitot probes is the most probable cause of the airspeed fluctuations.
This Directive requires replacement of the current pitot probes with those having an improved de-icing/rain capability.

Overview

Scope and Application
