SCHEDULE OF AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVES

 


AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE


For the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below issues the following Airworthiness Directive (AD) under subregulation 39.1 (1) of CAR 1998. The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.

 

Agusta A109 Series Helicopters

 

AD/A109/39 Hydraulic Pump 5/2003

 

Applicability: All A109E helicopters fitted with hydraulic pump part number 109-0760-42-101. Requirement:              1.              In accordance with Bolletino Tecnico 109EP-20:

  1. Check hydraulic fluid level.
  2. If an excessive consumption of hydraulic fluid is noted with no sign of external leakage, perform analysis of the transmission fluid for contamination.

2. Replace the hydraulic pump in accordance with Bolletino Tecnico 109EP-20.

 

Note: Italian AD 2001-286 refers.

 

Compliance: 1. At intervals not to exceed the basic 25 hour/30 day inspection.

 

2. Prior to 30 June 2003.

This Airworthiness Directive becomes effective on 15 May 2003.

Background: Certain hydraulic pump design do not allow hydraulic fluid to drain from the case if the hydraulic pump shaft seal leaks. Subsequently fluid leakage can degrade the main transmission seal and allow hydraulic fluid to enter the transmission. Contamination of the transmission lubricating oil could lead to transmission failure.
