The Act extends to any actions that are referred to the Minister for the Environment, regardless of where they occur in Australia, including in Commonwealth, state and territory waters and land, as well as in the external territories. Additionally, the Act provides for civil and criminal remedies, allowing for legal action to be taken against those who breach the provisions of the Act, ensuring accountability and protection of the environment.
