EXPLANATORY STATEMENT
1. Authority for making the instrument. Academic and Ceremonial Dress Statute 2005, s2.
2. Purpose and operation of the instrument. The Order prescribes the academic and ceremonial dress of the University.
3. Documents incorporated in the instrument by reference. None.
4. Consultation process. The decision to make the Order (and the enabling Statute) was an executive decision. Interested parties were not consulted as the Statute and the Order replace an existing Council Resolution on Academic and Ceremonial Dress. Decisions about the colours on hoods used to signify individual awards of the University are made after taking into account the recommendation of the faculty or research school responsible for the award.
