The parties in this matter were the father and the mother, who were engaged in proceedings concerning their child, B. The father sought interim orders, but the court ultimately made orders suspending existing orders and prohibiting the mother from arranging counselling for B related to sexual abuse.

The central legal issue before the court was whether to grant the father's application for interim orders, and in light of the circumstances, what protective orders were necessary for the child. Hannam J dismissed the father's application for interim orders. Crucially, the mother was prohibited from allowing or arranging for B to participate in counselling concerning sexual abuse or alleged sexual abuse, pending further order.
