The parties in this matter were the father and the mother. The father sought a review of a Registrar's decision concerning the filing of certain documents, which he contended were filed out of time according to rule 19.24(3) of the relevant rules. This contention was based on an incorrect date stamp on the documents. The mother also sought an order for security for costs in relation to an order previously made in her favour by the Full Court. The proceedings were heard by Kent J.

The primary legal issues before the court were: first, whether the documents filed by the father were indeed filed outside the prescribed time limit, and second, whether the mother was entitled to an order for security for costs.

Regarding the father's application, Kent J found that the documents were, in fact, filed within the time limit, despite the erroneous date stamp. Consequently, the father's application for review was dismissed. On the mother's application for security for costs, her Honour noted that the mother conceded her application was misconceived, observing that an order for security for costs is proactive rather than reactive. Therefore, this application was also dismissed. However, the mother was granted an opportunity to pursue an application under the court's enforcement powers.
