Martino & Gorman

In the matter of MLC 3283 of 2021, Ms Martino, the applicant, and Mr Gorman, the respondent, presented a dispute concerning their child, X, born in 2016, before O'Shannessy J of the Family Court of Australia. The court was required to determine the appropriate orders regarding parental responsibility for the child.

The central legal issue before the court was the allocation of parental responsibility for the child X. The court was tasked with making final orders that would govern the future care and decision-making concerning the child.

O'Shannessy J ordered that the Mother, Ms Martino, have sole parental responsibility for the child X. The court further directed that the Mother's solicitor be authorised to post a copy of the final orders and the settled reasons to the Father, Mr Gorman. The court noted that the Mother currently has no proposal to change the child's name but intends to notify the Father of any such proposal and consider his input. The court also referenced sections 65DA(2) and 62B of the *Family Law Act 1975* (Cth) regarding the particulars of obligations and consequences of contravention, as detailed in an annexure.
