Jimale and Adnan

In the matter of *Jimale and Adnan*, heard before Bennett J, the dispute concerned the parental responsibility and living arrangements for two children, W and G. The applicant, Ms Jimale, an aunt, sought orders regarding the children, while the respondent, Mr Adnan, an uncle, was also involved in the proceedings.

The court was required to determine the appropriate orders concerning the children's welfare, specifically regarding parental responsibility, where the children would live, and the extent of time the respondent would spend with them. Additionally, the court considered the need for community counselling for the children and the publication of court documents.

Bennett J ordered that the applicant aunt have sole parental responsibility for the children and that they live with her. The respondent uncle was to spend time with the children as agreed between the parties. The aunt was directed to facilitate the children's participation in community counselling. The court also granted liberty to publish certain documents, including the Issues Assessment and the reasons for decision, to relevant parties such as the Department of Immigration and Multicultural Affairs and schools. The order appointing an independent children's lawyer was discharged, and all other extant applications were dismissed.
