Janter and Janter

In the matter of *Janter and Janter*, heard before Justice Rose, the wife sought an adjournment of a hearing scheduled to commence on 23 June 2008. The proceedings concerned allegations of child sexual abuse.

The primary legal issue before the court was whether to grant the wife's application for an adjournment. Ancillary to this, the court was required to consider the appointment of a single expert to address the allegations of child sexual abuse and the allocation of costs associated with the vacated hearing and the adjournment application.

Justice Rose granted the wife's application for adjournment, recognising the need for further investigation into the serious allegations. The court appointed Dr M as a single expert to prepare a report specifically addressing the child sexual abuse allegations. New hearing dates were to be allocated at a further directions hearing on 16 September 2008. The father's application for costs of the vacated hearing and the adjournment application was reserved.
