Ison and Ison

In *Ison and Ison*, Collier J considered parenting orders concerning a child born in February 2004. The dispute involved the mother, Ms Ison, and the father, Mr Ison, regarding the child's living arrangements, parental responsibility, and the mother's proposed relocation to Queensland.

The court was required to determine the extent of parental responsibility to be allocated to each parent, whether the child should live with the mother, and if the mother should be permitted to relocate to Queensland with the child. Further issues included the terms of the father's time with the child, communication arrangements between the father and child, and the supervision of the father's time with the child. The court also considered the mother's obligation to inform the father of significant events in the child's life and the conduct of both parents towards each other.

Collier J discharged all previous parenting orders and made new orders. The mother was granted sole parental responsibility, subject to specific notification requirements to the father regarding the child's schooling and significant illnesses. The child was ordered to live with the mother, and the mother was permitted to relocate to Queensland after 15 January 2010. The father's time with the child was to be supervised by the paternal grandmother, with provisions for alternative supervisors. Communication by telephone between the father and child was also stipulated. The court also made orders restraining both parents from denigrating each other in the child's presence. The issue of the child's time with the father was to be relisted at a later date.
