Hargreaves and Hargreaves

In *Hargreaves and Hargreaves*, the Federal Circuit Court considered an application for adult child maintenance. The dispute concerned the quantum of maintenance to be paid by the father to the mother for their child, X, who was born in 1997.

The primary legal issue before the Court was to determine the appropriate amount of adult child maintenance payable by the father to the mother. This involved assessing the child's needs and the parents' respective capacities to contribute to those needs.

The Court ordered that the father pay the mother $160 per week in adult child maintenance, commencing on 27 January 2017. Furthermore, the Court stipulated that this weekly sum was to be adjusted annually by the Consumer Price Index for Melbourne, commencing on 1 July 2017 and continuing thereafter.
