Bronte and Gammar (Child support)

The matter of *Bronte and Gammar* concerned an appeal to the Administrative Appeals Tribunal concerning a decision made by the Registrar of Child Support. The dispute centred on the Registrar's amendment of the estimated income of Gammar, which consequently altered the child support payable by Bronte. Bronte sought to have this amended assessment reviewed and set aside.

The Tribunal was required to determine whether the Registrar had erred in amending Gammar's estimated income and, if so, whether the original assessment should be reinstated or a new assessment substituted. Specifically, the Tribunal had to consider the evidence before the Registrar and whether that evidence supported the conclusion that Gammar's income had been underestimated.

The Tribunal found that the Registrar had made an incorrect calculation when amending Gammar's estimated income. The evidence presented did not substantiate the increase in income attributed to Gammar by the Registrar. Consequently, the Tribunal set aside the Registrar's decision and substituted its own, reinstating the original child support assessment.
