This matter concerned interim applications made by the applicant in proceedings between Barakat and Farid. The dispute involved parenting arrangements for four children, spousal maintenance, and property distribution. The court was required to make interim orders addressing these issues pending a final hearing or settlement.

The legal issues before the court were: (1) the assessment of risk in relation to interim parenting orders for the children; (2) the assessment of the applicant's need and the respondent's capacity for interim spousal maintenance; and (3) whether an interim property distribution was just and equitable. The court also considered the need for disclosure of financial documents to facilitate these assessments.

In determining the interim parenting orders, the court prioritised the safety and welfare of the children, making orders that the children spend no time with the respondent, pending further orders. Regarding spousal maintenance, the court ordered the respondent to pay a lump sum of $28,000 to the applicant. For property distribution, the court ordered the transfer of $100,000 to the applicant, to be categorised at a final hearing, and the immediate delivery of a specified motor vehicle to the applicant. The court also mandated extensive disclosure of financial documents from the respondent and his associated businesses within 14 days. An Independent Children's Lawyer was appointed for the children.
