In *Baird & Baird*, the Family Court of Australia considered an application by a wife for property settlement and periodic spousal maintenance against her husband.

The primary legal issues before the Court were whether the existing property pool was to be divided and, if so, on what basis, and whether the wife was entitled to ongoing periodic spousal maintenance.

Cleary J determined that the wife was entitled to a partial property settlement of $150,000, to be paid by the husband within 14 days. The Court dismissed the wife's application for periodic spousal maintenance.
